Thursday was busy, so I ended up getting takeout. The first twenty or so times I got takeout, I always got the salad because, well, I didn’t know better yet. Now, I almost always get the soup. Today was a huge moment in the great Pasta Pass Experiment – I was joined by three friends, one of whom was my wife! She had previously promised to come with me at some point before my pasta pass ran out, but a special guest appearance in week 5? That’s insane!

Everyone keeps asking me if I’m sick of pasta yet. The answer, maybe a bit surprisingly, is no – the problem isn’t that I’m sick of pasta, it’s more that I miss eating other things. I walked by a hot dog stand yesterday and I really wanted a hot dog, but knowing I was just an hour or two away from a meal at the OG, I couldn’t really justify it.
Monday morning, I still had a leftover breadstick and a sausage from the weekend, so I threw together another sausage sandwich on OG breadstick for breakfast with the rest of the leftover peppers and onions. This must be at least tangentially the product of my hot dog craving.
Not as good as when it was on the Amoroso roll, but in other ways it was better because the breadstick was nice and salty on the outside. If you ever wondered if you could re-heat two-day old OG breadsticks, the answer is a resounding yes! Read the rest of this entry »
Four weeks deep, my weight hasn’t changed a bit, but my wife keeps saying that I look softer and plusher all around. Like your favorite teddy bear.
Busy weekend so I had to get takeout both days. I much prefer to eat in since the food is fresher, tastier, and I get to witness some interesting things, but hey, life happens too. Saturday I ordered whole wheat linguine with spicy three meat and sausage.
Instead of the usual dinner portion, for some reason I got this smaller lunch portion, and they gave me spaghetti instead of the whole wheat linguine. No worries, it was still delicious. And I’m not a huge fan of their sausage. In fact, the only reason I ordered it was because it was the weekend and I knew I’d be having a little fun with it. Read the rest of this entry »
The best time to hit the Olive Garden is either right when they open at 11 AM , or around 2:15 PM, after the lunch rush but not so far after that you end up getting the leftover “fritta” toppings. Today I went right when they opened, and it was interesting watching the restaurant slowly rouse itself for the day.
I barely ate dinner last night, so I was starving by the time I got to the OG today. Hunger really is the best spice, because today was the tastiest meal I’ve had at the OG during the entire pasta pass promotion thus far. Read the rest of this entry »
Over halfway through this project, I have now tried every pasta, sauce, and topping. So how do the pastas rate?
I can’t even begin to imagine how you roll out these corkscrew shaped pastas by hand. I’m imagining hobbits taking a long tube of pasta, scoring the sides, then wrapping the giant tube of pasta around the world’s longest #2 pencil, waiting for the shape to take, then cutting it into cavatappi. I’ve been having a lot of marinara lately so I decided to finally give the roasted mushroom Alfredo a shot today. This was a mistake.
Alfredo sauce is kind of like a quesarito or a triple whopper from Burger King – something you should have maybe two or three times a year. I’ve now had Alfredo sauce three times in three weeks. The first two times weren’t that bad, but I think all of the butter and cream finally caught up to me today. I can tell I’m not going feel okay for a very long time. Read the rest of this entry »
I didn’t have my camera with me yesterday, ended up getting penne with five meat and shrimp fritta before the football games. My fantasy teams are a mess this season.
I wonder what Native Americans do on Columbus day. I, for one, am spending Columbus day taking my taste buds on a trip across the Atlantic from Philadelphia all the way to Italy!
